Purpose and scope

This peer-reviewed journal has been established to publish scientific papers on matters of importance to the conservation and management of whales, dolphins and porpoises, and, in particular, papers relevant to  the IWC's Scientific Committee's work. These include:

  • population assessment and trends
  • population dynamics
  • population biology
  • taxonomy
  • risk-averse management strategies
  • direct and indirect exploitation
  • environmental changes and threats in the context of cetaceans
  • scientific aspects of whale watching and sanctuaries

We also publish short communications which present original and significant material, usually limited to a single finding, interesting observation or an important technical/methodological advance.

The purpose of JCRM is to publish high-quality original papers which advance scientific knowledge and contribute to the conservation and management of cetacean species.

Peer-review process

Submissions are sent to two anonymous reviewers who will share comments and make an overall recommendation. These comments will be shared with the author(s) who will be invited to submit a revised manuscript. The submission will then be accepted or rejected for publication.

Publication date

As an online journal, accepted articles will be published as soon as possible, once all editorial checks are complete.
